SAD NEWS : World No. 7 Hurkacz Withdraws From Paris Olympics, Impacting Also Swiatek………….
Hubert Hurkacz, the ATP’s World No. 7, has withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Olympics tournament.
The Polish player, like any athlete, intended to compete in the Olympic Games, but his most recent injury will prevent him from appearing at Roland Garros, where the tennis competition for the 2024 Paris Olympics will be held.
Hurkacz has had a strong year, and this year he won his first Tour-level clay title in Estoril, demonstrating his growth on the surface and giving him a threat at the Olympics, especially given he has finished the year in the Top 10 for the past three years.
However, his year took a negative turn at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The 27-year-old defeated Radu Albot 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the grass-court major, but was forced to withdraw in the second round after trailing Arthur Fils 6-7(2), 4-6, 6-2, 6-6(8-9).
It occurred after the Polish player lunged for a ball, injuring his leg. He then attempted to continue playing, but after diving for one of the balls again, he was unable to compete.
Since then, little was known about his condition and if he would be able to make it to the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he was scheduled to compete in all three categories, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. with Iga Swiatek, the WTA’s world number one.
Hurkacz and Swiatek have even played several mixed doubles matches together this year to prepare for the Olympics, but Hurkacz has now issued an injury update that is both positive and unfortunate for him and Polish fans.”I wanted to genuinely thank you for all of your nice messages. Your support means a lot to me. My recuperation is going extremely well, and I’m making steady progress.”
While stating that he has made progress in his injury recovery and that he may return to the ATP Tour for the hard-court swing in North America, the Polish star also confirmed that he will be unable to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“However, my team and I have concluded that I will not be able to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris. This was a very difficult decision, because I have always wanted to represent Poland in the Olympics and earn a medal for the national team.”
Hurkacz, like any athlete, dreamed of representing Poland, even though the clay courts at Roland Garros were never a successful venue for him, never making it past the fourth round at the French Open.
“Unfortunately, my health will not allow it this year. Of course, I will be watching and applauding for the entire Polish squad, as well as tracking their accomplishments and hoping them as many medals as possible.”
This absence has a direct influence on his compatriot Swiatek, who will most likely be unable to compete in the mixed doubles tournament.
