A month on from the French Open finishing the world’s best tennis players are back at Roland Garros competing for Olympic gold.

Whilst the sport of tennis has been a staple worldwide for sports fans for numerous years, it has fought a long and often arduous battle to become a regular on the Olympics stage. 16 editions have been held since the first in 1896 with a 44 year break from 1924 to 1968 owing to disputes between the International Lawn Tennis Federation and the International Olympics Committee.

Wind forward to 2024 and on the eve of its 17th edition, it is considered one of the most prestigious events a tennis player can win and is respected in that manner by the calibre of entrants across the five different competitions. The world number ones in the men’s and women’s singles are both set to compete in Paris from July 27th to August 4th.

Event One: Men’s Singles
Only one of the medalists from the 2020 Olympics will be lining up in Paris from July 27th with that being the Olympic champion, Alexander Zverev. Silver and bronze medal winners Karen Khachanov and Pablo Carreno Busta are not competing.

Zverev will be hoping to replicate Great Britain’s Andy Murray in winning back-to-back Olympic gold medals with hopes boosted after deep runs in 2024 at Wimbledon and more pertinently Roland Garros.
