At the 2024 Shanghai Masters, both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner secured their spots in the quarterfinals. Alcaraz cruised to a straight-sets victory over Gaël Monfils, avenging his previous loss to the Frenchman at the Cincinnati Masters. This win marked a strong recovery for the Spaniard, following his early exit at the US Open. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner overcame a tough challenge from Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, Sinner fought back to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, continuing his pursuit of a seventh title this year

Sinner, currently ranked No. 1, faced a more grueling battle compared to Alcaraz. Etcheverry played brilliantly in the first set, including an impressive drop volley during the tiebreak, but Sinner’s resilience showed as he found his rhythm in the second set, ultimately overpowering the Argentine with two key breaks in the final set. His victory marked his 250th career win, a significant milestone for the 23-year-old Italian.

Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 2, looked in fine form as he dominated Monfils with powerful groundstrokes and a solid serve. Alcaraz has been on a winning streak, recently claiming his fourth title of the year at the China Open, and continues to be a major contender for the Shanghai title. His victory against Monfils demonstrated his ability to rebound from previous setbacks and maintain a high level of performance .
