Iga Swiatek’s new coach explains changes he will make and how to beat Aryna Sabalenka.
Iga Swiatek’s new coach has laid down a marker for the Polish star as Aryna Sabalenka threatens to take a stranglehold of the WTA Tour.
She backed up her US Open victory with a run to the Beijing Open quarter-finals, before going all the way a week later at the Wuhan Open.
By contrast, Swiatek hasn’t been seen on a tennis court since he crashed out of the US Open at the last-eight stage.
Swiatek pulled out of the recent Asian leg of the WTA Tour, citing fatigue as the reason, while also announcing she’d split from long-time coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.
But now, with Wim Fissette in place as Wiktorowski’s replacement, Swiatek’s new coach is urging her to reach new levels in 2025.
Speaking to Eurosport Poland, Fissette said: “Our goal is for Swiatek to start adding more Grand Slam titles on other surfaces as well. The clay-court season has its own twists. There are a lot of matches and tournaments played in a short period of time.
“You need to get into a rhythm, gain confidence, and after Paris it’s time to switch to other surfaces. Then there will be an opportunity to work on playing on other surfaces and try to succeed there.”
