Iga Świątek started the US Open with a demanding match against Kamilla Rakhimova . The tennis player from the beginning of the second set took advantage of weaker moments in our representative’s game, which made it dangerous – especially in the second set, when the Russian was leading 6-3 in the tie-break. In the end, however, the Raszyn player showed masterful class. She won five sets in a row and closed the match with the result 6-4, 7-6(6).

In the second round, the WTA ranking leader met Ena Shibahara. There is an interestingstory associated with the Japanese player. She is a player who has already achieved considerable success, but in doubles. In doubles, she reached the final at the Australian Open 2023, and a year earlier she turned out to be the best in mixed doubles at Roland Garros. Recently, however, she decided to focus more on her singles career .

And as you can see – she did it effectively. She made it through the three-stage eliminations in New York, and in the first round of the main draw she fought a fascinating, over three-hour duel with Daria Saville . The match was decided only after a special tie-break in the third set, won 10-6 by Shibahara. The Japanese impressed with a huge number of finishing strokes and everyone was curious how she would translate this into a meeting with the winner of the US Open from two years ago.
